Background:

Anter is from (and parents live in) a small farming village (called locally "Forest Border") near Western Karameikos. Anter's parents are Hugolinaa (mother) a Laborer and Lewis (father) a farmer. Both are alive and well and have a positive relationship with Anter.

Anter's has five siblings:
  • Oldest brother: Richpre works on the farm and has a friendly relationship with Anter but is doing poorly due to finances.
  • Older brother: Henter was recently sold into slavery (a group called Black Eagle) for committing murder.
  • Younger sister: Anwed that works as an Artisan and has a friendly relationship with Anter but is doing well financially.
  • Younger brother: Treder works on the farm and has a friendly relationship with Anter. He is alive and well.
  • Youngest sister: Everard works as a Laborer. Anter is on good terms and she is alive and well.

As a young man Anter impressed a wizard (Widogast) who said he was squandering his talents working for his fathers farm and offered an education to take advantage of his gifts. Later as an apprentice, was outside an old tomb with the horses when Widogast was killed inside.

Perks
- every MAGIC-USER has 3 perks:
1/ a SPELL LIBRARY, a tome filled with spells based on their Intelligence (Chance to learn = INT on d20, minimum #=1/2 INT, max#=unlimited),
2/ the ability to ENSCRIBE SCROLLS for 100gp per level per day (quicker than Holmes rules), and
3/ BONUS SPELLS to memorize based on high Intelligence - 3 at first level
Clear Crystal Ioun Stone
This perfectly round piece of crystal can be commanded to float about the possessor's head. Once in orbit, the stone can be commanded to perform one of three functions:

1/ The stone can shine with light equivalent to a Light spell.
2/ The stone can be commanded to fly forth as if shot from a sling (use sling stone range and damage); it will return to hover about the possessor at the start of the following round (unless prevented).
3/ The stone can be used to conjure a Chromatic Orb once per day. The stone may only use one function per round (light, weapon, or Orb).
Rumors
Anter has heard that Mayor Ternelmor is overly eager to make Tegel a tourist attraction with the festival revivals. He is an ambitious man, arriving from Specularum nearly a decade ago and steadily gaining power in the little village with it absent Lord of the Manor. Ternelmor has expanded the local militia with many newcomers, many of them trained soldiers who bully the locals.

Anter has also heard about the Dearth Monster of Derfingel Marsh, a creature known for its size, great appetite, and ability to completely avoid detection and location. The creature often leaves behind claw marks and blood when snatching local livestock. Ternelmor thinks it must be a dragon, but others suspect an ogre, a troll, a hag, or even a griffin. The attacks have restarted recently, and are getting quite close to the village.

Tegel Manor sits on a hill to the southeast of Tegel Village. It is reputed to be an amazing feat of magic. More castle than manorhouse, it has survived for centuries thanks to the formidible enchantments laid upon the structure. It is said to be filled with the undead ancestors of the Rump family, which might be linked to the Manor's longevity.

Just north of the Manor proper is a guesthouse, essentially a smaller manor. This house was (is?) the home of the Waterley family, whose patriarch was a loyal retainer to the grandfather of the current Lord of Tegel Manor. The Waterley family was eccentric, and the guest house is said to be haunted by the father's victims. No Waterley has been seen in years.

The big forest go the east of town is enchanted. Faeries are said to rule there. And some of them are decidedly unfriendly.
